Bengal beat Odisha by 38 runs via VJD Method in their truncated league match of the East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy Tournament at JSCA Oval in Ranhi today. Rain stopped play when Odisha were struggling at 95 for six, in reply to Bengal`s competitive total of 202. With this win Bengal gained four points, while Odisha drew blank.
Put into bat, Bengal were reduced to 44 for four before a fifth-wicket stand worth 87 runs between Sudip Chatterjee and skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla helped them make a recovery. Medium-pacer Deepak Behera was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging four wickets for 44 runs.
Chasing the target, Odisha too experienced a top-order failure, losing six wickets for 86 runs. Barring opener Paresh Patel, who remained unbeaten on 39, no other Odisha batsman could reach double figure. Veer Pratap Singh did maximum damage to the Odisha batting line-up, taking three wickets for 34 runs.
Assam thrashed Tripura by 80 runs, also by VJD Method, in another match of the day at JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.
